Eat Breakfast to Lose Weight

Eating breakfast can help you eat less the whole day. Leptin is a hormone that suppresses appetite. Meg Jordan, PhD., R.N, says that eating breakfast “ensures our body’s leptin production.” Studies correlate that those who eat breakfast, eat fewer calories throughout the day. What’s the best breakfast to eat? You should aim to consume complex carbohydrates, fiber and protein. Here are some of our favorite healthy breakfasts and some suggestions on how to grab a good breakfast even on your busiest mornings.

Oatmeal

The best is steel cut oats, but when you’re in hurry, even instant oats will do. Just make sure to get plain oats and flavor them yourself with honey, cinnamon, or dried fruit.

Banana and Peanut Butter Toast

Top whole grain bread with all natural peanut butter and a sliced banana. Yum! Fold in half and take it with you on the go.

Power Smoothie

Add some raw kale to frozen fruit and blend with protein powder for a nutritious drink. When you mix veggies with sweeter fruits, like apple, pineapple or banana, you’ll barely notice the greens.

Eggs

Eggs are a wonderful source of protein. Hardboil eggs ahead of time and take a couple with you in the mornings. With more time, scramble up some egg whites with cut veggies and lean protein.

Burrito

Already wrapped to go, a burrito is a perfect take-with-you breakfast. Check out our recipe here.

Seed Cereal

Our favorite do-it-yourself cereal combines several powerhouse foods into one crunchy bowl of goodness. Mix equal parts chia seeds, flaxseeds, and hemp seeds and top with almond milk. Add dried fruit or nuts for a treat.
