Is When You Eat Just as Important as What You Eat?
Fasting Diet Plans That Work!
Recent laboratory and real-world studies have shown that when we eat may have a significant effect on our metabolism, our overall weight, and our ability to lose those unwanted pounds. Not only that, it can play a significant role in predicting future disease and disability. But you still have to keep that calorie count in mind if you want to lose weight. Look for fasting diet plans that incorporate both methods.
When You Eat Matters
Research from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies involving mice shows that when you eat is just as important—if not more so—as what you eat when it comes to your overall health, weight gain, and risk of chronic conditions likes diabetes. One group of mice was allowed to eat any time they wanted. Another was limited to eating the same food but within a tightly monitored 8-hour window. The mice that nibbled away all hours of the day “. . . developed high cholesterol and high blood glucose, had liver damage,” and gained 28 percent more weight than those which fasted for 16 hours.
Assistant Professor Satchidananda Panda, who led the Salk research, says that limiting your entire daily caloric intake to a similar 8-hour window can have some of the same benefits for you as well. “When you eat and fast each day will have a huge impact on your metabolism.” Additionally, “much like our brain needs to rest at night, our data suggests that the stomach and the body’s digestive system need to rest from processing incoming fuel, otherwise we work our organs into a state of metabolic exhaustion.”
Calorie Cutting Made Easy
Calories do count. Dr. Donald Hensrud, writing for the Mayo Clinic, recently answered the age-old dieting question: is it better to cut calories or exercise more? Dr. Hensrud cites results from multiple studies that have shown cutting calories results in dramatically more weight loss than exercise alone. Basically, if you eat less (i.e. consume less calories), you’ll weigh less.
This is the basis of Dr. Michael Mosely’s modified 5:2 fasting diet. But Dr. Mosely understands how difficult it can be to monitor caloric intake continuously. That’s why he created the Fast Diet—a realistic and sustainable fasting diet plan that helps you cut calories, but leaves you free to eat as you normally would 5 days out of the week! That’s right, Dr. Mosely recommends limiting caloric intake on 2 nonconsecutive days per week with intermittent fasting (by “fasting” Dr. Mosely means eating little or no food). So what’s the ideal number of calories to shoot for on those two days? Dr. Mosely’s personal experiments have led him to conclude that the best way to lose weight is for men to limit themselves to just 600 calories per fasting day and women to 500.

For Real Results – Fast and Watch the Clock When You Eat!
As Dr. Martin Young said during an interview with ABC News, there is a huge correlation between the clock and our bodies. Dr. Young researched the health of shift workers—individuals who are typically eating their calories late in the day or even into the night. Because of when they eat, shift workers are at increased risk of obesity and diabetes as well as cardiovascular disease
Dr. Young suggests that eating during normal “awake time” – during daylight hours – can help you lose weight and stay healthier thanks to the way the body’s metabolism responds to natural circadian rhythms. Indeed, corroborating research by Marta Garaulet, of the University of Murcia, shows those individuals who ate the majority of their calories before 3PM lost 25% more weight than those who ate after 3PM.
The Hollywood Cookie Diet® can help you supercharge your natural fat-burning mechanisms on fast days with this fasting diet plan: Have a cookie for breakfast, a light and sensible lunch, and then another cookie in the afternoon.
